Grist Brewing

We are starting a Denver adventure. Heading up to the “Big” city, we where looking for somewhere to stop that we had not been to before. Some place that a good selection of brews and was not to “corporate”.

We thought about Rare by Grist, but it did not open early enough for us. With that in mind we did find the original Grist. It is usually a bit off the normal path for us, but that happened to be perfect in this case.

This brewery is hidden back in an almost industrial area. Finding it is definitely worth it.

We started with a beer each, a Hopferno and a Crimson Crow. The Hopferno is an American IPA, while the Crimson Crow is an amber ale. Both where delicious with the notes you would expect. They do have a great list that should have something to satisfy just about any Craft Beer fan.

Now, the food really was excellent. The pulled pork was an extremely generous portion, and the apple slaw gave it the right bitterness and snap to make the sandwich come to life.

The veggie burger with pepper jack and a fried egg was also a surprisingly large sandwich. It hit all the right notes and certainly will fill you up.

Overall a great experience with a little something for everyone. We rate this location 160 out of 200 Bees.

Lucifer Season 6

Lucifer Season 6 was released today.

This is the final season of the Netflix series. For sure. For real this time. The series started on fox, and was cancelled after three seasons. Then Netflix bought the series, and renewed it for two consecutive seasons, and cancelled it for the fifth season. Finally it was renewed for a final season.

At some point we may do a review of the season, or something else in tribute to the show.

Star Trek Day 2021: Picard Season 2 Trailer

Yesterday was Star Trek Day. This year was celebrating the 55th anniversary of the series. Over the last couple of years there has been a bonanza of Star Trek based TV shows. One of the newest is Star Trek: Picard.

The second season is slated to premier next year. So in conjunction with Star Trek Day CBS and Paramount launched the first full trailer for the series.

The trailer is only two minutes long, and I have been looking forward to seeing what the new season has in-store for us since the teaser came out and revealed that Q was going to be a major player. It seemed to be a continuation of a story started in episode 1 of The Next Generation TV series.

Now, my impression of the trailer. Oddly this section may be shorter than the above introduction!

The trailer does do a good job showing off the visuals and main characters of the show, but there is very little Q information. The story seems to revolve around some time travel action (that seems to be all the rage these days) that has our enterprising crew trying to correct a change that was made.

Unfortunately it seems that most of the season will be set in the present day. Not what I expected from this series, one that is reportedly possibly the most expensive to date. Don’t get me wrong, time travel can be fun, look at Star Trek IV, one of the best movies in the franchise. I am just not sure if it can sustain an entire season.

With all that said I would still give the trailer 32 out of 64 starships. I still have hope for the series, and Q, if used properly, can make it fun. We will see what happens as we get closer to the release date.

Backyard Cookout

After a long day hiking the mountains, sometimes you just need to have some comfort food and a place to relax. A place that can feel familiar and have everything you need with no frills.

“The Backyard” in Castle Rock can be just such a place. The setup is exactly what it says it is. It is very much like a backyard and cookout, but with a better beer selection.

The first thing you will notice is a major difference from most restaurants you have been to. The whole thing is open seating. After selecting you picnic table, you scan a QR Code, and order what ever you want.

This is an excellent concept. You don’t have to wait for a member of the staff to take your order. The main drawback is the descriptions on the electronic menu is lacking.

We ordered the “Buffalo Chicken Dip” based on the title alone. While we waited for our food, we saw a plate go by that looked way better than what we ordered. It had vegetables on it, and all kinds of things. We could not find that anywhere on the menu.

It turns out that is exactly what we ordered, and it was great. The mix of veggies was outstanding, and the dip itself was a great blend of spicy and sweet. It hit the spot for a needed snack.

The rest of the menu fits perfectly with the Backyard theme. Basically, burgers and hotdogs.

There is a mismatch with the service. The beer service is excellent, it takes mere minutes from hitting the order button in your phone, to the beer being in your hand. However, the food service is significantly slower. It can be worth the wait, depend on how hungry you are, and your ability to wait for the food. Patience is key.

Overall we rate “The Backyard” 80 beers out of 100!

Spruce Mountain Open Space

In our quest to be more “outdoors” and “healthy”, today we went to the Spruce Mountain Open Space in Larkspur, CO. It is definitely worth the effort, even though, on a Sunday at least, it was pretty busy. There was a good number of people of all ages on the trails. Most of them faster than us.

There are a variety of different distances and loops to take. The shortest loop is about 1.5 miles, and the longest almost 9 miles. We did about three miles.

We do want to plan on a longer trip next time. Possibly even having lunch at one of the picnic tables that are on the well marked trail.

Overall the beautiful scenery and the moderate difficulty makes for a very entertaining hike. We highly recommend it. We give it 22 out of 24 trees.

Welcome to LucidTurtles

Greetings. We here at LucidTurtles have no one goal, ideology or target for what we are going to do here. We will post on just about anything. One day it may be beer and Breweries, the next it may be about games, or any other topic. Some days there will be nothing, others there may be bunches. As we move forward, we may find a strategy. Until then, try to expect the unexpected!
