Let me tell you the story of Nikki the Nomad, the one who travels, wandering the roads in search of fun and excitement. Nikki and the husband had been denizens of the Denver area for years. The husband had been toiling away for one of the largest cable companies in the United States. This company began a merger with a competitor. As the date of the merger approached the husband was confident. He was told that there was nothing similar to his department in the new company. He believed that he was safe. Closer, closer and closer the date approached. The day after the completion of the deal was announced, the husband was called into an office with HR. He was informed that he was being laid off and his department dissolved. The reality was stark, things changed that fast. The fortunate aspect was that Colorado had a required notification period. That meant some good news, even though he was not required to work, he was to be paid, until the end of September. Not only that, he was to be granted severance, based on the time that he had worked for the company. Also, he could not work until at least October 1st, lest he lose the severance. In an amazing coincidence the apartment complex got tired of the couples complaining and offered a buyout of their lease at the same time (the complex has had many problems, not just with the couple). With the changes happening, and the turning of the seasons Nikki and the husband decided to live a different life, one of adventure and change, the life of a nomad. With no fixed address, mail and packages are tough to get (many an hour would be lost when physical mail is sent and not received), as they are always on the move, but with the sun at their backs, and a stout sail, the fun will always be on the horizon.
